What’s involved

Footings are dug to numbers: depth below frost, bearing on undisturbed ground, and bottoms clean and level before the forming crew arrives. An over-dug trench gets fixed with concrete or compacted fill, and both cost somebody money.

We dig foundations, footing trenches, and pads for decks and additions, to the drawings. Open ground is risk, so we time the dig for when the formers are ready.

How deep do footings go here?

Below frost depth and onto ground that bears, per your drawings and the local building department. The number comes from the plans, and we dig to it.

What if you hit bad ground at depth?

It becomes a sub-excavation conversation: dig past it, replace with compacted fill, or get the engineer on the phone. What doesn’t happen is pouring on ground we know is bad.

Do you work with the forming crew?

Tightly. The dig lands when they’re ready, the bottoms are clean, and the corners are where the plan says they are.
