What’s involved

A driveway fails from underneath. Topsoil left under the gravel, a base that never got compacted, or water with nowhere to go will ruin the best paving on top. Prep is the part you never see, and it decides how long the surface lasts.

We strip to subgrade, set the grade and crossfall so water sheds, build the base up in compacted lifts, and leave a surface ready for gravel, asphalt, or concrete. Culverts and ditches get handled in the same dig when the driveway needs them.

Can you fix a driveway that washes out every spring?

Usually, and the fix is almost always drainage: grade, crossfall, a ditch, or a culvert. We correct where the water goes first, then rebuild the base.

Do I need new base before paving?

Ask whoever is paving; most pavers want a compacted, true base before they’ll stand behind the surface. We prep to the paver’s spec so there’s no argument later.

Gravel or asphalt?

We’re the wrong people to sell you either: we do the dirt. The base work is the same, and a good base under gravel is upgradeable to asphalt later.
